Start with clean and moisturized hair. Wash your hair with a hydrating shampoo and conditioner suitable for your hair type. Towel-dry your hair gently to remove excess water, but leave it slightly damp for easier twisting.
STEP 2: APPLY STYLING PRODUCT
Apply a twisting cream, gel, or butter to your damp hair. This helps to add moisture, hold, and definition to your twists. Make sure to distribute the product evenly throughout your hair, focusing on the ends and any areas prone to dryness or frizz.
STEP 3: GET YOUR TWISTING SPONGE
Use a twisting sponge, also known as a curl sponge or twist sponge. This sponge has textured holes that help create natural-looking twists. Hold the sponge in your dominant hand and position it on your head where you want to start twisting.
STEP 4: TWISTING TECHNIQUE
With the sponge on your head, gently rotate it in a circular motion while applying light pressure to your hair. Continue the circular motion and move the sponge across your scalp, creating twists as you go. Keep the twists uniform in size and direction. You'll notice that the textured holes in the sponge catch and twist your hair, giving it a coiled and defined look.
STEP 5: REFINE AND STYLE
Once you've twisted all areas of your hair, you can refine the twists by using your fingers to separate and define them further. Allow your hair to air dry or use a diffuser on a low setting to speed up the drying process without causing frizz.
